Improving the community in poor neighborhoods
A.Contrast and summarize two case studies – Community Organization and/or Community Building:  For this exercise you will identify two examples in the literature where authors attempt to describe community organizing and/or community building effort(s) for the purpose of distilling strategies and techniques that were utilized by practitioners and/or organizers.  In other words, summarize a journal article that explains how practitioners put community organizing / community building theory into practice.  Your paper should be 5 pages, 12 point font, double spaced.  The paper should describe:
oThe rationale for why the organizing effort was created? Name the issue(s) of concern.
oWho were the involved constituencies? How did they become involved? Â How were they brought together? Once involved, how was involvement sustained?
oDescribe the community organizing and/or community building strategies and techniques that were used (close attention must be paid to the key concepts described in week one’s lecture)
oWhat were the challenges faced? How were they overcome?
oWhat were the outcomes made?
oWhere is the organizing effort now?
oIn your opinion, was the effort successful? Explain your response.
oCompare and contrast the two efforts, highlight limitations and provide recommendations.
