Take some time to think about the issue of education and police. As part of chapter three’s discussion on the traditional approach to policing, the author talks about the possible benefits of requiring police officers to have college degrees. Please discuss both sides of this argument and give your opinion on this policy. As we discuss methods of policing, and improved relations with the communities we serve, we have had recent events that could potentially hurt the police/community relations. Locally, a family was outraged after North Miami Beach Police used one of their family member’s mug shots as shooting targets for their snipers. Research further this issue and tell me your thoughts on this newstory. Would you change the policy? Would you keep the policy as is? Provide a response as if you were presenting your position to the public who expressed concerns to you in response to this newstory. As you work on this project, would it change your response to learn that it is common practice among police departments to use mug shots for their snipper’s targets to assist them in training on target acquisition?
