The U.S Congress appears to represent special interest groups only. This is because all Congress members, including the President and vice president, have to rely on campaign contributions in order to maintain their election campaigns. Most of the contributors come from special interest groups. For this reason, it is remarkably true to say that the Congress represents these special interest groups. These groups always have a right to vested interests, which they have been accorded in the First Amendment. The special interest groups may not necessarily be all crooks; the crooked ones are those representing insurance companies, utilities, developers and the like.

In some ways, Congress gets things right by listening to such special interest groups as unions, gun control lobbyists, and ethnic groups. This is a marvelous thing because instead of having to carry out their own investigations, the congressmen and women can choose to rely on these groups for vital information. However, problems arise when certain special interest groups seem to influence the decisions of Congress with their wealth, which sometimes may reach billions of dollars. I do not want our Congress to adopt such influences since they produce greed and corruption. Everything should be done in a reasonable manner when it comes to matters of governance. Although things are rarely perfect, something should be done about corruption in Congress. Any Congress member who votes in Congress through the influence of money needs to go to jail.
Special interest groups tend to favor one party over all the others depending on what their interests lie. Therefore, the party that supports issues that are of benefit to the interest groups tends to win. This is extremely unfair. I think we need to do away with all special interest groups. This is because it is difficult to determine whether their arguments in support of or against bills are based on greed. It is unconstitutional for the success or failure of various government policies in Congress to be determined by greed and the love of money. These evils are the ones that are destroying our economy. For many years, our government has been putting the needs of lobbyists ahead of those of the American electorate. It appears like lobbyists always win the hearts of everyone who dominates the Congress, whether it is democrats or republicans. In a democracy, things should not operate in this way. As a country, we have a lot that is at stake, and something must be done about this.
Personally, I am convinced that change in Congress is required, though I am not sure how it is going to happen. I think that one of the means through which we can do this is to write to all our politicians in the hope that they are going to listen to us. We need to tell them about how unfair it is to listen to different special interest groups instead of us. We may also write a letter that contains a signed petition about the law and the things that bother us. It is an excellent idea to get as many Americans as we can so that they can listen to us. Who knows, we may be invited for a meeting with them so that we can go over things with them. It is up to all of us to try and change things.
