Domain III Task: Informatics and Analytics
The article relates to the informatics and analytics task of Domain III. Health informatics encompasses a study of how health information is acquired, stored, and retrieved in order to foster efficiency in the delivery of care, for example, through collaboration among different providers (Nelson & Staggers, 2017). Health informatics contributes greatly towards efforts to actualize healthcare reform. In the article, the author recognizes the crucial role played by informatics in the provision of healthcare and thus, examines the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s project that entails implementing an Enterprise Data Warehouse. The platform would allow for the creation of a trusted foundation for healthcare informatics in the healthcare facility.
According to Krause (2013), every large organization needs to invest in a trusted information platform that will go a long way in helping help them in building the capacity of their data analytics and biomedical informatics. The implementation of enterprise data warehouse will allow the medical center to unleash its power of healthcare informatics. It brings together both financial and clinical information from various data sources. The data can then be identified and analyzed for the purposes of interpretation. The implementation of the software will allow the medical center to increase the speed of transitioning biomedical research into new and effective treatments (Shortliffe & Cimino, 2013). This process will help in the improvement of the quality of healthcare. A data platform offers a centralized data resource that is capable of serving all the institutional needs. The platform will be important in facilitation of research across all the departments, supporting quality improvements, offering the necessary infrastructure for building the capability of the institution in biomedical informatics, and controlling costs (Krause, 2013).
